6 good reasons to work up a sweat at work

Many people have an inactive and stressful life, where everything revolves around deadlines, shopping lists and children's hobbies. With around 8 hours a day in front of the screen in the office, followed by transportation in the car and some practical chores, we look forward to ending the day on the couch in front of the TV. There is rarely enough time to take time out to exercise, despite the fact that it is a New Year's resolution every year. Sedentary behavior and the wide availability of unhealthy foods have led to a large proportion of the Danish population becoming overweight. This not only has negative consequences for the individual, but also costs society billions of kroner every year. An unhealthy lifestyle can lead to lifestyle diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and blood clots. Cardiovascular disease is the second leading cause of death in Denmark. But how can you prevent poor health? Physical activity has a positive impact on both your physical and mental health. It's all about incorporating more physical activity into your daily life. A good way to do this is to be physically active at your workplace. Everything counts - a full hour of intensive exercise, but also an extra trip up the stairs or to the printer. You can read about some of the many good reasons to work up a sweat during working hours here:

Exercise reduces/prevents pain

Sedentary work, such as working in an office, is particularly prone to headaches, neck tension or back pain. By getting some movement into your working hours, you can loosen up your muscles, stretch them out and become stronger. In many cases, it can make the pain disappear altogether.

For your health

Sedentary behavior leads to obesity and lifestyle diseases. Incorporating more physical activity into your daily life is an investment in your future, giving you more healthy, disease-free years and a longer life.

Improving the social community

As well as improving your physical health, exercise in the workplace can also improve well-being. It strengthens social relations to get into your workout gear and to share in the activity. It provides an opportunity to talk about things other than work and to get to know your colleagues better.

More energy

You may spend a lot of energy exercising and some people may expect it to drain you of energy. But you will find that the opposite is true - if you incorporate more movement into your working day, you will find that you have more energy. You won't get as tired in the afternoon and you'll improve your concentration. You'll be in a better mood, making it easier to get through a long working day.

Reducing stress

By extension, exercise reduces stress in both the short and long term. Having more energy in your daily life helps you to stay on top of things and to cope better with stressful situations.

Variation in the working day

If you introduce a little exercise into your working day, it provides a new breathing space where you can let your thoughts go. The opportunity to shift attention from work routines gives renewed energy and often new ideas come flying, which can be the solution to the challenge you are currently facing in a work task.

These were just a few of many good reasons to start moving more at work. Happy working and happy exercising!
